Case Studies
“It was a very fruitful workshop … and gave focus on the imbalance regarding the issues of gender and power… I have gained from Gender At Work that the position or rights of women must have to be taken by women ourselves...” (India Program Participant)
Why organizations work with us
A wide range of organizations – CBOs, multi-laterals, trade unions, mixed organizations and women’s organizations – participate in Gender at Work programs because they recognize the discrepancies between internal policies and external expressions of values. Gender at Work helps transform unequal gender norms and other power relations at the individual, organizational and community levels in collaboration with these organizations.
Within our Civil Society Organization (CSO) Strengthening Program, the peer-learning workshops – a key component of the program – enable the participating organizations a unique opportunity to explore strategies and create plans with like-minded organizations, drawing on each other's experiences in order to develop innovative change models for improved outcomes. The peer-learning workshops also build support systems through peer feedback and an accountability loop that helps ensure the projects become a reality, helping individuals and organizations become more effective in their actions towards creating gender equality.
Our case studies illustrate the kinds of significant changes our partnering organizations have been able to facilitate at the individual, organizational and community levels, such as capacitating women to take leadership roles, enabling them to role model change in organizational structures, as well as to take the lead in changing unequal gender norms.
Gender at Work’s long-term goal is to enable individuals and organizations to shift consciousness in order to address the roots of inequality and poverty that lead to violence against women and other forms of marginalization and human rights violations.
