Gender, Diversity, and Inclusion in Global Health

Global Health 5050 (GH5050) has been reviewing the gender-related policies and practices of numerous global health organisations annually since 2018, aiming to advance gender equality and health equity. Through surveys and interviews with key informants from a sample of 201 organisations, G@W assessed current practices, the impact of GH5050's reports and Index, and strategies for measuring organisational culture changes.

Informing, inspiring and inciting actions to promote gender equality, diversity and inclusion

Despite some progress over time, significant global shifts such as the #MeToo movement, Black Lives Matter, and the COVID-19 pandemic have highlighted gaps between the Gender and Health Index’s measurements and organisational realities.

To address this, between 2022 and 2023, Gender at Work partnered with Global Health 5050 (GH5050) to explore the relevance of the GH5050 Index and organisational culture in promoting gender, diversity, and inclusion (GDI) within global health organisations.

Through surveys and interviews with key informants from a sample of 201 organisations, we assessed current practices, the impact of GH5050’s reports and Index, and strategies for measuring organisational culture changes.

The report explores a number of ways that organisations are measuring organisational culture internally while also raising some of the opportunities and challenges of including such a measure in the Gender and Health Index.
